Albendazole, a drug from the antihelminthic group, is a very commonly used antiparasitic drug. The spectrum of Albendazole uses is very vast. This drug brings about its action by, somehow, inhibiting the sugar consumption of the parasite. This will lead to loss of energy in the parasite which will eventually die.

COMMON USES OF ALBENDAZOLE:

  • Acariasis
  • Giardiasis
  • Filariasis
  • Neurocysticercosis
  • Hydatid Disease
  • Pinworm Disease
  • Liver Fluke

STORAGE OF ALBENDAZOLE:

Albendazole is always stored at room temperature (20℃ to 25℃) inv a dry place.

DESCRIPTION:

An antihelminthic drug with actions so diverse that it is used for both humans as well as animals. Albendazole limits the sugar-consuming abilities of the parasite and destroys them by causing glucose deficiency. Albendazole for veterinary use is very common particularly the use of albendazole for dogs, sheep, and cattle.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION:

Chemically, albendazole is the methyl 5-(propylthio)-2-benzimidazolecarbamate. It is basically a C12H15N3O2S. The formula clearly reveals that it contains carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur.

PRODUCT APPLICATION:

Albendazole, chemically known as methyl 5-(propylthio)-2-benzimidazolecarbamate, is an anti- parasitic drug. It is also known as an anti-helminthic drug because of its ability to kill the helminths in the body. In its API form, it is usually available in the white or yellowish powder form. In addition to this, it is slightly soluble in the water and has a melting point of 208-210℃.

A complex series of events in which benzimidazole derivative is synthesized from the heterocyclization of the phenyl diamine derivative. The reaction of this derivative with cyanamide, followed by a reaction with methyl chloroformate results in the synthesis of Albendazole. This compound can easily kill the parasite residing in the animal, as well as, the human body.
