Diminazene is a veterinary drug used in cattle, horses, cats, and dogs. This substance has an excellent response against protozoans such as Trypanosoma, etc. Diminazene diaceturate form is its widely available formulation. It is a derivative of benzene and belongs to the phenylhydrazine group.

COMMON USES OF DIMINAZENE:

Diminzene’s protozoal actions are very well-known and have a wide range of impacts on horses, cattle, cats, and dogs. Some of its actions are;

  • Trypanocidal.
  • Brucellosis.
  • Babesiosis.
  • Anti-cytauxzoon.
  • Antistreptococcal.

STORAGE OF DIMINAZENE:

Diminazene should be stored at cool temperatures i.e. 2-8℃ in an inert atmosphere. Also, keep it away from moisture.

Description

A member of the phenylhydrazine group, diminazene is a powder with strong actions against protozoans and bacteria. With its action in multiple pet animals, it is of great importance in veterinary medicine. It is always available in its salt form, diminazene aceturate. It also has some action against bacteria such as streptococci and brucella.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION:

Diminazene is a derivate of benzene and has an IUPAC name of 4-[2-(4-carbamimidoylphenyl)iminohydrazinyl]benzenecarboximidamide. The chemical formula for this drug is C14H15N7.

PRODUCT APPLICATION:

Diminazene is an excellent antiprotozoal owing to its ability to block DNA replication. In cats and dogs, cytauxzoon infestation along with trypanosomal infestation is very common. Similarly, cattle and horses also undergo multiple infestations of Trypanosoma. All these infestations are efficiently controlled by diminazene aceturate. In addition, it has antibacterial action too.
