Description
Nitazoxanide is a synthetic benzamide compound with antimicrobial and antiprotozoal activity. This compound has long been utilized in the management of diarrhoea caused by protozoal infections in the USA. This drug functions by blocking the energy production pathway in the infection-causing organism.

USES:
Nitazoxanide is used in the treatment of several anaerobic microbial and protozoal infections. The infections that cause diarrhoea are usually the prime indications of this drug. Giardia, Cryptosporidia, Blastocysts, etc., are the protozoans that this agent kills. In addition, helminthic infestations can respond very well to this drug.
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION:
Nitazoxanide has an IUPAC name of [2-[(5-nitro-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)carbamoyl]phenyl] acetate. The molecular drug for this compound is C12H9N3O5S.
PRODUCT APPLICATION:
Nitazoxanide has a lot of actions in the microbes and protozoa that kill them. For example, this drug inhibits energy production in microbes by interfering with the pyruvate: ferredoxin/flavodoxin oxidoreductase. When there is no energy to carry out life processes, the organism dies. It does the same in protozoa as it blocks the nitroreductase and quinone oxidoreductase enzymes.
